Rewettable Canvas Pipe Lagging is a 14.5 oz fiberglass asbestos pipe wrap that is easily installed over asbestos pipe insulation to conceal the fibers that are considered a health concern if airborne. The rewettable pipe lagging is made out of fiberglass cross woven thread that is embedded with an inorganic rewettable coating. Once moistened, the rewettable coating becomes sticky and hardens once it dries. This insulation lagging is tested to withstand a maximum operating temperature of up to 1000°F.
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Meets Military Specification: MIL-C-20079H Type 1 Class 4
- Meets US Coast Guard USCG 164.009 for incombustibility
- Rated for High Operating Temps: Up to 1000°F
- 100% Made in USA!
PRODUCT DIMENSIONS:
Per Yard: 60" wide x 3ft long* (for less than 5 yard orders)
Per Box (5 yards): 60" wide x 15ft long
Discounted Price per Box: $86.25
*Note: Per Yard orders are not cut individually, if you order 3 yards, you will receive a 9 ft long section
Installation Instructions:
- Repairs: Crumbling and deteriorating insulation should be repaired prior to encapsulation with Fiberlock Wet Wrap 'N' Seal Asbestos Repair Rolls.
- Measurement: Measure the outside circumference of the pipe insulation to be concealed to figure out how many yards of material to order. We recommend that the 60" length be used to cut 3ft long strips rather than have 60" long strips which are harder to install (we recommend an seam overlap of 3"-6" depending on pipe size.)
- Activation: The rewettable cloth coating is activated by water and hardens once dry to a cast like barrier.
- Dip Method: Dip the Rewettable Pipe Lagging in water (bathtub, pail, etc.) and allow excess water to drip off before application. (similar to wallpaper)
- Spray Method: Spray both sides of Rewettable Pipe Lagging with a spray bottle until completely wet.
- Application: Wrap the moist Rewettable Canvas Pipe Lagging around the pipe with the overlapping seam facing downwards on the upper part of the pipe. Allow a 3"-6" seam overlap along with a 3"-6" joint overlap between two sections. (gloves are recommended)
- Dry Period: Allow 12-24 hours for the asbestos pipe wrap to fully cure, we recommend waiting 48 hours before coating with Fiberlock Lag Kote Asbestos Encapsulation Paint
- Coating: As a secondary barrier, coating Rewettable Canvas with Fiberlock Lag-Kote II Asbestos Encapsulant will provide an aesthetically superior finish.
WARNING: Asbestos is a health hazard. Proper precautions should be taken at all times when working with or near asbestos containing materials including wearing a respirator and properly sealing off the work area from other parts of the building.
*Product Quantity Estimation: Please feel free to email us the dimensions of your pipe and we will calculate the total number of yards that are needed for your project. Did the Job - Easy to use
Purchased to encase an old asbestos-insulated water pipe in a New England basement. Customer service was very helpful in estimating the amount I would need, the price was right, shipped promptly and arrived as scheduled. Easy to install; I highly recommend.
*John, we are glad to hear that your project went as planned ~ BIP -
Easy to apply
I was able to encapsulate the asbestos covered pipes in my home in one day. I did the following:
- Measured the circumference of the asbestos covered pipe. Most were 12" around.
- Added 3" for overlap and cut 15" off the folded blanket; ended up with a 15" x 60" strip. I cut mine with a good pair of scissors.
- Wetted the blanket and laid the strip lengthwise over the pipe and wrapped around.
- Cut 4" strips (4" x 60") to wrap around corners and bends.
- Saved over $8,000 vs having the asbestos professionally removed.
I had 90 feet of pipe and two of these blankets were enough. I ended up with a little left over. Definitely recommended! -
Matched my 100 yr old home pipe lagging perfectly!
Easy to use, just wet &wrap, turned out looking like a pro did the job. Now I can sell my home knowing that it is not a hazard and I did it for less then $100 dollars. Thanks for a great product and an informative site. You certainly helped take my stress level down a couple of notches...
*Robert, we are glad that you can now safely sell your home and have less to worry about in this stressful time. ~ BIP -
Fantastic product
First time I used this product. I cut into 3' lengths so it was easier to work with. First few were not show pieces, however the following ones went on very well.

Excellent product, easy to use
I am an older retired woman and found this product easy to use and it does a great job of encapsulating the old asbestos pipe covering. I did use the Wrap N Seal product on the crumbling parts first. For the runs of pipe that were easy to reach around it was simple to apply. The trick is to cut pieces that fit where you are working. The more difficult part is where I could not reach around the pipe due to other items next to it (water pipes, wiring, wood framing). If you ever wall papered then this is similar and quite simple to use.

Excellent Product
My basement hot water heating pipes are insulated. although the insulation is in good condition, it may contain hazardous fibers. So, I decided to cover it with this rewettable canvas rather than remove it. Until you gain some experience applying it can be a little messy, but you catch on quickly. Narrow strips are good around corners. The result is I now have a hard shell around the insulation that I will eventually paint. I would recommend this application if your heating pipes are insulated with older insulation that is still in good condition. This in my opinion much easier and less expensive than removing and then re-installing new insulation.

Remarkably Easy to Use
Used according to the directions and found it worked nicely. A plastic sheet on the floor might be advisable. Disposable gloves strongly recommended. Seems to have solved the issue.
*Kathleen, thank you for your review and your tip on protecting the floor which makes cleanup much easier. ~ BIP -
Unbelievable product and service ...
Jonathan walked me through what I needed to purchase to satisfy my home buyer's request that I cover the asbestos pipes in the basement. The material was perfect, easy to apply with Jonathan's instructions and became rock-hard on completion. Can't imagine anyone else who could be so helpful with such a great product. Thanks so much.

Very good product
I used the cloth to encapsulate the asbestos insulation on the old heating system piping in my basement. Some tips:
- Be sure to use a respirator when working on the asbestos piping as some fibers will likely come off as you do the encapsulation - I found the North Half Face Mask with P-100 North HEPA Filter Cartridges worked well. I also used latex gloves.
- For going around bends or dealing with difficult configurations, I recommend cutting strips about 2 inches wide and winding them around the pipe with substantial overlap.
- I recommend spraying instead of dipping, but make sure that both sides of the cloth are well saturated and glisten with water. I used a large plastic drop cloth underneath the area where I cut and sprayed as it is a messy operation.
- Before applying the cloth, I used water and a rag to clean off the worst of the many decades of dirt on top of the insulation which helped the cloth adhere to the insulation.
- To cut the pieces, I used a utility knife and straight edge with a board underneath and cut the 4 layers that had been folded together in the roll.
- Before cutting, try to align the different layers so that the fibers are parallel to the straight edge for the cut, otherwise, you will have a lot of strings of the fiberglass material unraveling to deal with after applying the cloth.
- Once cut to the size equivalent to the pipe diameter + 3-6 inches overlap, I cut the length of the unfolded piece in half (about 30 inches) since that is about the longest piece that can be applied without becoming unmanageable.
- Be sure to try to pull the cloth firmly around the insulation to minimize wrinkles and bubbles and then firmly smooth the exposed edge into the fabric that it is overlapping.
- Strings can be easily cut after the fabric becomes hard.
* Thank you for the great insight and extremely helpful tips on the install of the cloth. ~BIP -
Wonderful Product
I found this product saved me a massive amount of money. The lagging was easy to apply through watching instructional video that was shown on this product. All my pipes passed inspection. Would recommend this product.

Good Protection
I must say, when I read the details on this canvas I didn't know what to expect. I ordered 1 piece to tryout first and then ordered more once I felt comfortable that it would work. I did the spray bottle technique which I think is less messy than dipping the entire piece in water. Once damp the canvas becomes very sticky so you want to get it on wrinkle free because its not easy to reset. It took a day or so to fully dry, and it formed a hard cast which is rock hard. I was planning on painting over this but it looks good as is for now. Overall I am happy with the results although it took some time.
**Thanks for the tips and we are happy that the product worked for you ~ BIP
