Fiberglass Pipe Insulation covering is intended as a thermal insulation for both hot and cold service piping from -20°F to 1000°F.  The pipe insulation is molded from heavy density resin bonded glass fibers that come in 3 foot long hinged sections. The fiberglass is wrapped with white All-Service Jacketing with a self-sealing lap (ASJ/SSL) for a quick and secure installation. Each 3 foot section of commercial hot and cold pipe insulation comes with a butt-strip tape (matching the white ASJ jacketing) that is used to connect two sections of fiberglass pipe insulation covering together.

Fiberglass Pipe Wrap Uses:

  • Domestic Hot & Cold Water Pipes
  • Hot Water Heating Pipes
  • High Temperature Pipes
  • Dual Temperature Pipes
  • Steam Pipes (Low to High Pressure)
  • Condensate Lines
  • Refrigerated / Chilled Liquid Pipes

Choosing The Correct Size: There are two sizes you need to choose when ordering fiberglass pipe insulation, the "Pipe Size" and the "Insulation Thickness".  The insulation thickness is the wall thickness of the fiberglass which varies from 1/2" up to 3" thick. For help selecting a fiberglass pipe insulation thickness see our Fiberglass Thickness Guide  To determine which Pipe Size to order please see the link below (Note: Pipe Size is NOT the same as the pipe diameter):

Installation Instructions:

To install hot and cold pipe covering, simply open the hinged part of the commercial pipe insulation and place the opening over the pipe. The fiberglass piping insulation covering will self-close around the pipe. Once the fiberglass is fitted snug around the pipe, peel the release paper from the self-sealing lap and press the ASJ/SSL jacket closed from the middle towards the edges of the pipe insulation. Make sure to rub the jacket closed to ensure a secure seal.  Seal two sections together with a piece of butt strip tape making sure to rub the tape to create a secure seal.  Additional ASJ MAX Tape is recommended for large projects and projects that require multiple cuts of the insulation.  Use of PVC Fitting Covers for elbows, tees, unions and other pipe fittings should be installed after installing fiberglass pipe insulation.

White ASJ Jacketing:  A large majority of common size fiberglass pipe wrap insulation we ship is the new ASJ Max / HP ULTRA pipe insulation while some larger sizes and (3 x 1/2, 3-1/8 x 1/2, 4 x 1/2, and 4-1/8 x 1/2) will be Johns Manville Micro-Loc HP.  The new ASJ Max / HP ULTRA jacketing has a poly top-coat over the ASJ paper which makes it easier to wipe clean and slightly water resistant (cannot be left exposed outdoors).

NOTE: Each unit is 3 linear feet of pipe covering. For example, if you need 9 linear feet, you only need to order 3 units.

BUY INSULATION PRODUCTS.COM ONLY SELLS AMERICAN MADE FIBERGLASS PIPE INSULATION PRODUCTS.  DEPENDING ON SHIP TO LOCATION AND/OR PIPE SIZE WE MAY SHIP OWENS CORNING ASJ MAX OR JOHNS MANVILLE MICRO-LOC HP / HP ULTRA INSULATION. PLEASE CONTACT US WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

TIP: We highly recommend ordering a roll of ASJ Max Tape with your order of Fiberglass Pipe Insulation to ensure you have enough tape to completely seal your piping system.  Every cut made between fittings (tees / 90s etc) will result in the need for more tape. ASJ Max Tape also comes in 25'er Short Rolls for smaller projects.

    Superior product-Great service!

Posted by Alan M. on 3rd Jan 2019

I recently ordered fiiberglass steam pipe insulation. The product was very easy to install due to the design of its adhesive fastener. In addition, extra tape strips for use in joining each length were included. My basement is now much cooler, which tells me heat is going up into the house, where it belongs. Thanks very much! I will definitely do business with you again.

Highest Quality, REALLY Sticky Tape, Fast Delivery

Posted by Charlie E. on 1st Jan 2019

I bought two boxes of 2 different size pipe insulation for boiler pipes in a basement rental. The boxes arrived in 2 days, way faster than I was expecting... or was prepared for! The count of blended sizes was perfect.

The insulation is better made (higher quality) than can be found in box stores, and the peel-off sticky tape held more firmly than I expected, as well.

I will buy from BuyInsulationProducts again in a heartbeat. They were recommended by my boiler maintenance guy, the (steam) Boiler Whisperer.

    Thanks! Charlie E.

Excellent quality product, way superior than what can be found in the well known Home Centers.
Size chart for selection and staff very helpful.

    Could not be happier!

Posted by Timothy S. on 27th Dec 2018

I could not find what I wanted in the local big box stores (you know who they are). It was such a relief to find this site and be able to order what I needed at a great price and have it delivery quickly trouble free. For now on I will check here for all my insulation needs and save myself wasting time driving around trying to find products the others don't have.
    Thank you, Tim

Were it not for the shipping costs...

Posted by Humberto R. on 25th Dec 2018

I'd give them a better rating if I didn't think their shipping costs were excessively high! Just can't figure out why they're so expensive. It's not like the rolls of fiberglass insulation for pipes are heavy (it's foam!) nor long (at 3 feet). The high costs of shipping made me think about the purchase 3 or 4 times and looking through the big box stores to see if I could get the same insulation with their free shipping to store option. I wasn't able to.

As for the pipe insulation, the winter here has been quite quite mild! So it's hard to say if the insulation has been effective. It was easy to put on aside from crawling around in the crawlspace under the pier & beam house. That's never fun! Product was easy to cut with long kitchen knife. I ended up not using the recommended tape and just tied things up using some velcro since I want to be able to remove the rolls of insulation should the need arise! Used them on 3/4" PEX & C/PVC plumbing. I'd recommend going with the 1/2" pipe insulation despite their chart recommendation of 3/4" as I noticed the 3/4" insulation hole was a little too big for the 3/4" plumbing. The 1/2" pipe insulation fit better, a bit more snug.

Maybe January will hit us with some freezing temperatures but so far hard to say if they'll work. I think and hope the pipe insulation does work! So I can avoid having to use heating pipe tape and not worry about possible fire hazards!

Would I buy from them again? Yeah! But only after checking out other options for possible shipping costs relief! Their instructional videos were very nice, just not 25%-of-the-total-price-of-the-purchase-in-shipping-costs-nice.

*Humberto, unfortunately shipping costs for pipe insulation are expensive compared to the price of the material. The boxes we ship are very large and bulky even though they are light weight they still are expensive to ship. Stores that offer free shipping are building the cost of shipping into the material cost so we recommend comparing total costs for an accurate comparison. Also please note that 3/4" Pex Tubing is the same as copper tube size so 1/2" is the correct size to use from our site (order 1/2 x). We are sorry to hear that you were not 100% happy with our products and service. ~ BIP

Easy, instant relief from hot NYC pipes!

Posted by Sam P. on 10th Dec 2018

I am thoroughly impressed with the professional quality of this insulation as well as the incredibly easy installation. IMPORTANT: You will want a separate 25’ “small” roll of tape, just to seal up any areas that may arise.

MY STORY: I had pipes that gave off heat and made our small NYC apartment balmy. I had little space between my walls and the pipe. This was the ONLY site offering 1/2” thick insulation. On top of that, the business looked professional and kind. The table offered easy ways to measure my pipes.

MY EXPERIENCE: My shipment came in two days. The insulation was packaged perfectly and was so light, so it was easy to transport to the area I needed to work. The fiberglass does not pill very much. Just a quick wipe after and the job was done. The product snaps right into place. It also cuts very easily with a serrated steak knife. Watch the video for even more tips if you want to be a master, but it’s self explanatory. One thing to note is that the white tape remains on the flappy part while closing the insulation around the pipe, then you peel that off to reveal even stickier stuff.

In my old NYC building, the pipes are extra hot when the radiator goes on in the winter. It was causing us to sweat midday! Immediately after installing the insulation, which took 30-40m start to finish, my room was cool again! I can’t wait to order more for my other rooms! Thank you!!!

    High quality, easy to install

Posted by Barbara S. on 9th Dec 2018

The 1" thick fiberglass steam pipe insulation was much higher quality than expected. It arrived the next day after ordering. I only have one functioning hand but was still able to install it easily in a few hours. So yeah, you could install it with one hand tied behind your back. The sections can be cut to size with a box cutter or pocket knife. They are self-adhesive and also come with tape to seal the sections together.

It made a huge difference in our heating system, keeping the basement cooler and the rest of the house warmer. I was so pleased, I ordered similar 1" fiberglass pipe insulation for our hot water pipes.

I'd recommend wearing eye protection during installation to prevent bits of dust and fiberglass from getting in your eyes.

So few things in life are better than I expected.

Posted by Steve S. on 5th Dec 2018

First thing that I liked was that I had a question, after looking at the helpful website, so I called and the phone was picked up and my question was answered right away.

The next thing that made me happy was that I got the order the next day! And the shipping cost was very reasonable for the size of the box I received.

What did I order? Well I have a utility room/ laundry room right off the front entry way of my house. Had about 60 linear feet of exposed domestic heating piping, 3/4 and 1 inch. Covered it up with 1 inch thick fiberglass insulation and PVC elbows and T's (they came with insulation and tape as well). Cost for these parts... about $100. It was about 100 degrees F in that room.

How did the installation go? Well, I planned it out very well in my head. Made sure I had plenty of time, had a snack, then got started. Basically just needed a sharp, smooth bladed knife, tape measure and... some common sense (not everybody has that lets face it) and personal protective gear.

It looks beautiful! I mean really, covering up those ugly looking old pipes with nice, neat clean, professional looking insulation is worth $100 in itself.

Yeah, but did it work? Heck yes it worked! It is down to about room temperature in that area now. Touching the outside of the insulation jacket feels like it is room temperature compared to the 200 degree pipe one inch away.

*Steve, thank you for such a well thought out review on our products and our service! We really appreciate the kind words ~ BIP

Easy to install / Great video

Posted by Scott H. on 29th Nov 2018

I've never insulated pipes before and found this project to be quite simple.

The instructional video on your website was very helpful and helped me make this install look better than some professional jobs I've seen!

The order was also 100% accurate, which I'm thankful for. I plan to insulate the rest of my heating system soon and will definitely order from you again.

    Fits Nicely

Posted by Frank S. on 19th Nov 2018

The size guide was very helpful and I must have selected the right sizes because all three different sizes fit the pipe tightly. The insulation its self is good quality and the jacket is bright and glossy.

    Scam!!

Posted by Al K. on 17th Nov 2018

I ordered 3 pieces 5 inch fiberglass insulation but received 1/2 inch!! Also paid about $30 for overnight delivery, it took a week to receive. I don’t recommend.

*Al, I am truly sorry to hear that you are upset with our service. I looked into your order and we shipped it out the very same day you placed it. UPS was unable to deliver to your address and brought it to a UPS Access Point since they can no longer drop packages without signature to that location. Unfortunately UPS' decision to not drop a package is out of our control. In regards to the order error we can make mistakes but we always go over the top to correct them. I did not see a reported error for your order so this is the first we are hearing about it. Please email/call in all the details and we will fix this immediately. ~BIP
