Fiberglass Pipe Insulation covering is intended as a thermal insulation for both hot and cold service piping from -20°F to 1000°F.  The pipe insulation is molded from heavy density resin bonded glass fibers that come in 3 foot long hinged sections. The fiberglass is wrapped with white All-Service Jacketing with a self-sealing lap (ASJ/SSL) for a quick and secure installation. Each 3 foot section of commercial hot and cold pipe insulation comes with a butt-strip tape (matching the white ASJ jacketing) that is used to connect two sections of fiberglass pipe insulation covering together.

Fiberglass Pipe Wrap Uses:

  • Domestic Hot & Cold Water Pipes
  • Hot Water Heating Pipes
  • High Temperature Pipes
  • Dual Temperature Pipes
  • Steam Pipes (Low to High Pressure)
  • Condensate Lines
  • Refrigerated / Chilled Liquid Pipes

Choosing The Correct Size: There are two sizes you need to choose when ordering fiberglass pipe insulation, the "Pipe Size" and the "Insulation Thickness".  The insulation thickness is the wall thickness of the fiberglass which varies from 1/2" up to 3" thick. For help selecting a fiberglass pipe insulation thickness see our Fiberglass Thickness Guide  To determine which Pipe Size to order please see the link below (Note: Pipe Size is NOT the same as the pipe diameter):

Installation Instructions:

To install hot and cold pipe covering, simply open the hinged part of the commercial pipe insulation and place the opening over the pipe. The fiberglass piping insulation covering will self-close around the pipe. Once the fiberglass is fitted snug around the pipe, peel the release paper from the self-sealing lap and press the ASJ/SSL jacket closed from the middle towards the edges of the pipe insulation. Make sure to rub the jacket closed to ensure a secure seal.  Seal two sections together with a piece of butt strip tape making sure to rub the tape to create a secure seal.  Additional ASJ MAX Tape is recommended for large projects and projects that require multiple cuts of the insulation.  Use of PVC Fitting Covers for elbows, tees, unions and other pipe fittings should be installed after installing fiberglass pipe insulation.

White ASJ Jacketing:  A large majority of common size fiberglass pipe wrap insulation we ship is the new ASJ Max / HP ULTRA pipe insulation while some larger sizes and (3 x 1/2, 3-1/8 x 1/2, 4 x 1/2, and 4-1/8 x 1/2) will be Johns Manville Micro-Loc HP.  The new ASJ Max / HP ULTRA jacketing has a poly top-coat over the ASJ paper which makes it easier to wipe clean and slightly water resistant (cannot be left exposed outdoors).

NOTE: Each unit is 3 linear feet of pipe covering. For example, if you need 9 linear feet, you only need to order 3 units.

BUY INSULATION PRODUCTS.COM ONLY SELLS AMERICAN MADE FIBERGLASS PIPE INSULATION PRODUCTS.  DEPENDING ON SHIP TO LOCATION AND/OR PIPE SIZE WE MAY SHIP OWENS CORNING ASJ MAX OR JOHNS MANVILLE MICRO-LOC HP / HP ULTRA INSULATION. PLEASE CONTACT US WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

TIP: We highly recommend ordering a roll of ASJ Max Tape with your order of Fiberglass Pipe Insulation to ensure you have enough tape to completely seal your piping system.  Every cut made between fittings (tees / 90s etc) will result in the need for more tape. ASJ Max Tape also comes in 25'er Short Rolls for smaller projects.

Great Quality & Great Price !!

Posted by Gene D. on 4th Jan 2020

Initially bought an inferior product at a higher price from HD. After a bit of research online I found this website & decided to give it a shot.
VERY pleased to find that I received a MUCH BETTER product for a lower price AND UNBELIEVABLY FAST SHIPPING.
Also - The instructional videos were MUCH MORE informative than ANYTHING that those BIG BOX stores can offer.
I RARELY make recommendations but in this case I have already told 2 people about the website !!

    THANK YOU !!

*Gene, thank you for the great review, we really appreciate the compliments and the referrals! ~BIP

Great Product - Not so great chart

Posted by Andy from New Hampshire on 10th Dec 2019

I purchased the 1" thick pipe insulation for my residential steam system. Anecdotally speaking... my basement is now less warm, my living spaces are slightly warmer, and my boiler is firing less to keep the temperature the same. Goals accomplished.

Tips for any other clueless homeowners, such as myself.:
-The self-adhesive strip really needs be rubbed on to get it to stay adhered.
-Try to keep the outer jacket of the insulation dust free (difficult in my crawlspace) as it will help with the self-adhesive strip.
-You will use more ASJ Max tape than you expect!
-Use sharp/new razor knives to cut it. Cuts easy!

It's a great product, and easy to work with, but rated 4 out of 5 because I found the sizing chart confusing. It's difficult to access some of my pipes so I used calipers to measure the OD. Some of my pipes were different sizes from what was listed in the chart so I had to "guess" as to what to order. Lucky for me only 10 pieces were unusable so I ordered a second batch a size up/down from my original order.

    When in doubt... call 888-367-8931

    Works well

Posted by Lisa H. on 18th Nov 2019

We recently removed the asbestos from our heat pipes and thought the abatement company would reinsulate them with Fiberglas. They said they could do it - for $3500 - so we decided to do it ourselves. It was pretty easy because the product is sturdy and works way better than the sample pieces I bought at Home Depot. We’re not quite done and now the weather has turned cold but the house heats up quickly and the new insulation seems to work quite well. It also looks nice and neat and we’re looking forward to finishing up with the pvc covers for the elbows, etc.

    Fibreglass pipe insulation

Posted by Barry S. "Tennessee Steam" on 14th Nov 2019

45 years ago somebody decided to insulate a few of the more accessible steam supply lines in the basement/boiler room crawlspaces. 1974 newspaper is what was handy I guess. after reading various posts on heating help dot com and watching a couple of Dan Holohans steam videos I knew one of the headline upgrades to make our old house radiators work as originally designed was some of this stuff - mains pipe insulation.

despite the shipping cost to tennessee it was still much more economical than a local supply house and SO much better a product than big box stores limited offerings. hardest part was finding someone willing/capable of dealing with the narrowest corners of crawlspace to install.

careful measuring of pipe OD and looking up the chart for nearest rounded down nominal pipe size avoided costly returns. tubes easily fit onto the pipes and secure snuggly with sticky tab that runs the length. large roll of max tape recommended for extra cuts of length, corners, hangers etc. we also double taped the pipe lengths of most difficult access areas, just to be sure I don't have revisit in my lifetime. On a budget, I cheated using pipe wrap on junctions and corners after trying to cut out bevelled joints - the insulation cuts very easily, but not so in very constrained spaces. not great, but ok. perhaps spend the money on the products here to complete the otherwise very clean and professional look of the insulation once the butt joints are taped up.

ship out and delivery was fast.
    radiators getting steam evenly now

*Barry, great review. Newspaper was a common pipe insulation back in the day. We see this a lot on older homes when you open the walls up. ~ BIP
