FIBERLOCK Lag-Kote II Bridging Encapsulant for Asbestos Insulation
New product offering! We are now proud to stock Fiberlock Lag-Kote II which is a specially formulated bridging encapsulant designed specifically for asbestos fibers. Lag-Kote II can be used directly onto asbestos insulation or as a secondary barrier over Rewettable Canvas Pipe Lagging.
What is Lag-Kote II?
Lag-Kote II is a thick bridging encapsulant/sealant specifically formulated for application over interior friable asbestos containing material (ACM). It is ideally suited to encapsulate interior pipe lagging, boiler jackets, breeching and other components of heating and ventilation systems. Its thick body minimizes dripping, cleanup and product waste while providing a smooth, washable, aesthetically superior finish that will provide years of protection. Lag-Kote II is a flexible coating that can be applied over galvanized metal, wood, masonry or other sound surfaces to prevent the release of harmful asbestos fibers.
What does the II mean after Lag-Kote?
The "II" or 2 after Lag-Kote differentiates this product from the original Lag-Kote. The only difference between Lag-Kote and Lag-Kote II is that Lag-Kote can be used outside. Lag-Kote II is designed only for interior use and is not UV or Rust resistant. If you need Lag-Kote for exterior use, please contact us and we will be glad to get you that product. For most asbestos encapsulation projects, the material is located indoors and Lag-Kote II is the preferred product of choice.
Do I need to use Rewettable Canvas Pipe Lagging with Lag-Kote II?
Although we highly recommend the use of Rewettable Canvas Pipe Lagging prior to applying Lag-Kote II, it is not required. Lag-Kote II can be applied directly to the surface of the asbestos insulation. Buy Insulation Products recommends first installing the Rewettable Canvas which will prevent damaged insulation from possibly falling or breaking off.
How much Lag-Kote II do I need?
Fiberlock provides two estimates for coverage, one is on a smooth surface (2nd coat) and the other is on a porous surface.
Smooth Surfaces: 250-350 sq. ft. per 2 Gallon Pail
Porous Surfaces: 150-200 sq. ft. per 2 Gallon Pail
One 2 Gallon Pail is usually enough to cover a standard residential basement's heat piping.
What color is Lag-Kote II?
Fiberlock Lag-Kote II is white although it can be tinted to match pastel color shades. The finish is a glossy smooth surface that can be easily wiped clean with a damp rag.
