Most pipe insulation fitting covers come with a fiberglass insert wrap which is first wrapped around the bare pipe fitting before the PVC cover is installed. Once the PVC Cover is placed over the fiberglass insert, the PVC cover can be secured by three methods. The most common is the white stainless steel King Tacks which join the overlapping layers of the PVC cover and hold it securely in place. On cold/chilled piping systems the use of PVC Permaweld is recommended to create a weatherproof and air-barrier bond. The third method of closure is white PVC Vinyl Tape which seals the PVC covers with an air-tight seal.
