Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound is a low-cost yet highly effective solution for DIY soundproofing projects. Green Glue compound is designed to block sound transmission between walls, ceilings, and floors. Apply two tubes of Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound per each 4x8 sheet of drywall or panel of subfloor to reduce sound vibration transmission between rooms. Green Glue is sold per case of 12 (28oz) Tubes with each case providing a coverage of 192 square feet. Noiseproofing Compound is dispensed with a quart sized caulk gun and applied in a random pattern on the back of the drywall/subfloor. The sheet is then fastened to the existing drywall/subfloor layer with the use of screws. By simply adding an additional layer of drywall and Green Glue to an existing wall you can add 12 points to the wall's STC Rating (Sound Transmission Class)! Recommended 2 tubes of Green Glue per sheet of drywall 4' x 8' (192sf / case)
Install is Simple:
1. Cut tube open and screw on tube nozzle.
2. Apply 2 tubes to the back of the second layer of drywall in a random pattern across the entire board (leave 3" border at the edges).
3. Install drywall by sandwiching Green Glue compound between the two layers with the use of screws. (hang within 15 minutes)
4. Seal all perimeters and cracks with sound sealant. Mud, sand, and paint as normal.

Basic STC Ratings:
STC 52 : Standard Single Stud insulated wall with Green Glue Noiseproofing Sealant between 2 sheets of 5/8" drywall on ONE side of wall.
STC 56 : Standard Single Stud insulated wall with Green Glue between 2 sheets of 5/8" drywall on BOTH sides of wall.
STC 58 : Staggered Stud insulated wall with Green Glue between 2 sheets of 5/8" drywall on ONE side of wall.
STC 62 : Staggered Stud insulated wall with Green Glue between 2 sheets of 5/8" drywall on BOTH sides of wall.
STC 73 : Double Stud insulated wall with Green Glue between 2 sheets of 5/8" drywall on BOTH sides of wall.

Purchased a few boxes of Green Glue and it seems to be working good. I used this on a ceiling with Kinetics Isomax isolation clips and metal channel so I dont know for sure if the Green Glue worked or if it was the clips that worked.

Sounds much better
Bought 2 cases for my drywall contractor to use on shared walls between me and my neighbors in a townhome. We had space constraints so green glue and new drywall was what I resorted to. Its still fresh but the noise is now at a much lower level. Hoping it goes down even more in the 2-3 weeks for the glue to cure.

Bought due to price and need for a sound dampening compound for ceiling in old 1930s Home
Price was best for this product line and needed a way to dampen noise on a 1st floor area from an upstairs 2 floor area upstairs and appears to work out ok. The glue with the extra massive sheet of drywall should help out. Instructions says to wait a month or so but due to adding an additional 5/8" drywall ceiling over existing drywall with plaster underneath, works fine. Workers like how this green glue helped in installation due to weight of panel with 2 worker positioning and screwing in place.
