ASJ Sealing Tape for Fiberglass Pipe Insulation
Posted by BIP on 20th Feb 2015
For each 3 foot section of Fiberglass Pipe Insulation we sell at BuyInsulationProducts.com we provide one piece of butt strip ASJ tape. A butt strip is a 3" wide ASJ piece of tape that is specifically cut to length for each pipe insulation size. The butt strip tape is used to connect two sections of fiberglass pipe insulation together and match the white ASJ paper jacketing. Read on to learn how to use pipe sealing tape.
The photo below shows a typical joint between two pieces of fiberglass pipe insulation.
Each butt strip that we provide comes with an easy lift corner which separates the tape from the release paper.
Line up the butt strip tape to be centered on the exposed fiberglass joint and start applying. Be sure to rub the ASJ tape on evenly to avoid wrinkling and air bubbles.
Our ASJ Butt strips have an acrylic based adhesive that must be rubbed in to activate the glue. Failure to properly rub in the adhesive will cause the pipe sealing tape to lift or even pop off the pipe insulation.
The end result will be a complete white paper jacketing system that is fully sealed with no exposed fiberglass joints. For larger pipe insulation projects or projects that will require many cuts and fitting covers, you may need to order an additional roll of ASJ Tape.
